On September, 2023, the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security launched the “National Platform for Sustainable Nuclear” (info here).
Members of CIRTEN have been involved in the initiative by the Ministry, offering their contribution by collaborating in some of the Working Groups into which the Platform has been framed. The kick-off meetings of the WGs are planned in December 2023.
The goal is to prepare a comprehensive document within nine months, to provide the Ministry with a roadmap, able to guide the restart and the implementation of the nuclear option in Italy.
Nuclear Energy, the only reliable and programmable energy source with no or limited green-house-gas emissions (like renewables), has been recognised as an important asset to fight climate change, into the European “Green Taxonomy” document.
