Key Competences

CIRTEN was/is involved in several important and interesting research activities, in particular with reference to nuclear technologies like:

  1. ENERGY SYSTEMS AND THEIR R&D PROBLEMS
  2. NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS AND FUEL CYCLE
  3. SANITARY AND INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS OF NUCLEAR RADIATION
  4. ISSUES ON DESIGN, OPERATION AND SAFETY OF PLANT INSTALLATIONS
  5. ISSUES RELATED TO IMPACT AND/OR ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION; RADIATION PROTECTION,
  6. SHIELDING AND INTERACTION OF IONIZING RADIATION.

In particular the research activity refers to:

  • Energy production
  • Energy system and environmental
  • Fission and fusion nuclear power and research plants
  • Fuel cycle (from mining to waste disposal)
  • Industrial and sanitary application of nuclear radiations
  • Environmental impact of energy systems
  • Production of alternative fuels to reduce the environmental impact of transport, etc..
  • Radiation protection: physical security and protection of population and environment from harmful effects of radiation; shielding and interaction of ionizing radiation
  • Design, operation and safety of plant installation issues;
  • Etc.

About 100 papers per year are published by the CIRTEN Working Group members in proceedings of recognized international conferences, in international journals and/or National and International Report in the several areas of nuclear field:

  • Industrial & Nuclear Safety
  • Neutronic
  • Structural Mechanics
  • Thermal Hydraulics
  • Software Development
  • Experimental Activities
  • Training
